The Journey So Far...

Growing up in the 90s and 00s, a time where hair straighteners were relatively new on the market, and beauty standards appeared to favour straight, sleek, “groomed” hair, I grew up envious of those with straight locks! Not content with the hair straighteners that were available when I was in my early teens, I vividly remember IRONING my hair (very literally - with an actual iron!) before school, completely frazzling my hair and incurring a few burns along the way! As technology improved, I got my hands on my first pair of “proper” straighteners when I was 15 and there was no going back!

I continued this battle against my natural curls throughout the remainder of my teens, right through my 20s until I was 30. My hair had become so damaged over the years that, not only had I lost my curls, but I had been left with a mass of unmanageable frizz. My hair was so damaged that it was snapping, and I had resorted to wearing hair extensions for the majority of my adult life.

It wasn’t until 1 week after my 30th birthday (call it self-acceptance and/or a quest for healthier hair) that I decided to stop using heat tools on my hair for 1 month to see if I could undo some of the damage. That “heatless” month turned into 2 months, then 6 months, then 1 year; all the while my curls and overall hair health were improving along the way. And now, here we are, 6 years down the line, and I have never looked back!

I have learned how to care for my curls and I have learned how to embrace them. It took me 30 years but I now celebrate their uniqueness and versatility, and I am passionate about encouraging others to care for and embrace their natural hair texture too. They are part of your identity; they are part of what makes you, YOU!

I understand the unique needs of curly hair, and so I set up Curly At Hart; a place where we celebrate and cater to the specific requirements of curly hair with our collection of luxurious curl-friendly products and accessories. Over time, as we grow, Curly At Hart will become a one-stop-shop for all your wavy/curly hair needs.

With Love,
